– Hey guys it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue. And I want to talk to you today about the way that words have power. “In the beginning was the word” is, in some translations of The New Testament, the way the entire thing opens. And I think that’s really, whether you’re religious or not, a really powerful articulation of the fact that when we name things, when we give them a word to attach to them, it brings them into being. And they actually say that one of the reasons why we don’t have memories from the earliest parts of our lives is because that’s before we spoke. You have to have pretty well-developed language to be able to hold onto and categorize those experiences.
I play this little, stupid game on the New York Times with shapes, and when I can give a name to the shape, I can match them much faster than when they’re just spatial. And so… why I’m talking about all this is that it’s part of why I’m so jazzed by naming brands. When you name something, you make it real in a way that it doesn’t entirely exist before you name it. And I just think that’s so cool. And I just wanted to talk about it with you guys. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Bye!
