Who the hell is Angi?! Okay, so I’m in my car the other day, listening to the radio, NPR of course, #NPR, and this ad comes on for Angi, and for a split second, I think, “who the hell is Angi?” But, like, immediately I figured out, oh, Angie’s List has been renamed. So, in case you’ve been under a rock, Angie’s List is a service that hooks you up with tradespeople for your home, for jobs around the home, contractors, that kind of thing. And they’ve been around since the earliest days of the internet, which is why they’re called Angie’s List. It started out as a list.
But now, they have a little bit different business model. They hook you up with them. They’re vetted, you know, they’re quality vendors, but they’ll also even… you can pay for them through this service so that you have some financial security. So they’re more than a list. And what’s more, the list, it kind of sounds old-fashioned.
So, knowing when to rename a brand that needs to be renamed is a real puzzle. It can be a very hard decision to make. But in this case, it was the smartest thing in the world. I’ll go back to… it took me a split second to figure out that Angie’s List was Angi, right? In a case like this, where they didn’t have to really lose any equity, lose any recognition, it made all the sense in the world to make this name change. I think it was really smart. That’s who Angi is. Let me know what you think. Bye!
