– Okay, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue and today we’re going to talk about the name White Claw. Everybody knows about this brand. In case you don’t, it’s hard seltzer. It’s seltzer and it’s alcoholic. And it’s a whole new category! There’s a lot of them out there. Everyone is trying to sell one now.
But White Claw was definitely one of the early entrants, if not the first, I don’t know, that really popularized this market. And I’m fascinated by that name. The name is fabulous! And to help underscore how fabulous it is, let’s compare it to Zima. So Zima was an alcoholic, light, refreshing beverage that one of the breweries came out with, I don’t know, like 15 or 20 years ago, that ultimately failed.
They’d done all these taste tests and men and women both liked the taste. But it failed, because men… somehow it surged up in the culture that it wasn’t manly, and that it became like.. we didn’t have memes back then but, the butt of a joke to be a man ordering a Zima.
If you think about it, it sounds like a woman’s name, Zima. I like to think that our society has progressed since then. But also when you look at White Claw, it may be lower calorie and it may be very refreshing, but, White Claw, it like seems to speak to cleanliness and purity with the White, but it’s got some teeth in it.
And men are not afraid to be seen drinking it. It’s a really cool name and an interesting commentary, I guess, on our society too. I don’t know. Anyway, what do you think of this name? What do you think? Did you like Zima? I thought it was yummy.
