Words have so much power that naming things often brings them into being, conceptually. Without a name, does a concept, a product, a company, even exist in our minds?

How To Make Your Brand Names More Memorable
TRANSCRIPT:
Hey guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue, and I want to talk about naming the weather. So we’re all familiar with the idea of naming hurricanes, right? But I was recently in the Bay Area, and I learned from a good friend that the fog in the San Francisco Bay Area is named Karl. With a K. And it was just so interesting to me, and I read up on it, and people were talking about how it makes the fog seem friendlier that it has a name.
And it got me thinking about just how, like I often think about, how important it is to name things. Not long after, I saw an article about the fact that they’re thinking about naming heat waves, because heat waves are actually the most deadly weather phenomenon. They kill people more than all of these other things, cyclones and tsunamis and all these other things, and people don’t take them that seriously, which could really save lives if they did. And so I don’t know who, the folks in charge of these things, the National Weather… I don’t know, they’re saying, “maybe if we name heatwaves, it’ll make a difference.” And as someone who names things for a living it makes all the sense in the world to me. I love it! So that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Bye!
