Hey guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue, and I want to talk about Minor League names and what makes a Minor League sports team name major. What makes it great? I think that when a team name has a sense of place, is when it’s most wonderful, for Major League names as well as Minor League.
I mean, the Baltimore Ravens, they’re talking about the heritage of Edgar Allen Poe being from Baltimore with his famous poem, “The Raven.” The 49ers, they’re because of the gold rush in 1849, like they’re rooted in a sense of place, and Minor League baseball teams are so good at this.
There’s so many wonderful, there’s the Hartford Yard Goats. It has something to do with like rail yards. And here in Ohio, we have the Akron RubberDucks, because Akron was a center for the rubber industry. And wait, there was one more in my notes, the Brooklyn Cyclones, because Coney Island is there, in Brooklyn with the famous Cyclone roller coaster. I love this kind of creativity and rooting in a sense of place.
I think if you think about what Minor League teams are all about, they are about bringing communities together. And so to embody that in the name is just awesome. I would love to hear what Minor League is near you that has a wonderful name. Give me the examples. Let me know. Bye!
