This video isn’t about the dehumanizing effects of AI, although a lot of people seem to be feeling scared about that. No, it’s explaining why we prefer to refer to people as people, and not as consumers or targets. tellthetruths

TRANSCRIPT:
Hello everyone. It’s Rebeca with BrandTrue and I want to talk about what is a “person”? And this is not about AI this is about consumers. Basically, in the business I’m in people talk about “consumers” and “target audiences” and things like that and I think that it’s actually very dangerous terminology. I believe so much in the power of words that… (I fall into it don’t get me wrong) but I try very hard to say “person” to say to a client, instead of… “Who is your target audience?” “Who are your people?”. Because we have to come to these people with great empathy. And in insights work we’re always trying to leverage feelings of empathy. When we call them consumers it’s like a consumption-bot. It’s dehumanizing them. When we call them people it’s a subtle shift in our brains and how we look at them. So that’s why you’ll hear me calling people, people. That’s what I had to say. That’s what I wanted to share with you guys. Let me know what you think. Bye!
