Sometimes a name “just feels right” in the mouth. Why is that? Check out the #tellthetruths video below for an explanation of how that works.
It Just Feels Right
Strategy and effective communications always come first when you’re choosing a name, but if you’re trying to decide between brand name options that are equally effective at saying what needs to be said, you can consider “mouth feel” for a great tie-breaker to help you decide.

Hey, guys, sometimes a name just feels right in the mouth. What’s that about? Is that crazy? Are you making that up? No, actually there’s research that absolutely proves this phenomenon. For example, if you take the made-up word, Buleka, and the made-up word, Kuleba which one do you prefer? They’ve done research that most people prefer Buleka, and the reason why is because it moves from the front to the back of the mouth, Buleka, and Kuleba same sounds, opposite direction, is actually moving from the back to the front. So it’s not quite clear why we prefer these things. One hypothesis is that it’s how we eat. How we take in nourishment. But whatever the reason, those things do seem to flow better in the mouth. So I think strategy comes first if you’ve got some names that you’re choosing between, what’s the best strategic fit, what’s communicating what you need to communicate? But if you have some that are equal on all other measures, go for that feel in the mouth and that movement from forward to back to help you decide which is a better option. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Bye!
