If you’re using any of the two-way communications that are now available to brands to get input from your people, but not really, REALLY listening to what consumers then say to you, you’re positively lighting brand equity on fire. You’re burning it up!
If you’re not prepared to enter into a meaningful dialogue with your consumers, do yourself a favor and don’t ask them what they think in the first place.

Hey guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue, and I’ve got something that I’m trying to figure out in my mind, maybe get off my chest a little bit, which is this idea of don’t ask my opinion if you don’t want my opinion. Okay, so that’s a little thing we say around my house. Well, if you ask me, you didn’t just mention it, you asked me, then you don’t necessarily have to do what I said, but I have to feel like you were at least listening. Don’t ask if you’re not gonna listen, right?
So maybe that’s a family thing, but I also think that’s a really important thing in meetings. Sometimes people don’t follow that in meetings, and that’s fairly infuriating. And I’ve also been thinking about it with brands lately, right? In the modern age, brand communications are no longer one way, they’re very much two way through various social media, and just, you know, electronic media.
We can talk to consumers, consumers, we can talk to brands. It’s wonderful, and yet there’s, I see a lot of communications, you know, “Oh, this brand’s gonna be on TikTok,” “Hey, here we are, we’ve got a Facebook page.” But are you really still just talking to people one way and telling them, “Hey, please weigh in,” but not listening to what they have to say? It’s not only a huge lost opportunity to get their opinion, but it’s also counterproductive. People, they could smell insincerity, and it’s not good. So that’s my little branding thought on that. Ask opinions and then consider opinions. Let me know what you think, bye.
