So, let’s talk about whether the brand name “Ten Thousand Villages” sucks. The answer is… it doesn’t suck, but it’s so long and clunky that I had to think about it, that’s why I wanted to talk about it with you. Ten Thousand Villages is actually a national chain of retailers that are a nonprofit. They’re all about connecting artisans in really, 10,000 villages around the world with a market for their goods, cutting out the middleman, giving them a fair wage, and making sure that they’re not exploited. So, people that are going into a Ten Thousand Villages store, they’re looking for something cute, something different, not what you’d find at the mall. But, more than anything, they’re looking to spend their dollars in an ethical way. They’re looking to make the world a better place with that cute, little, cinnamon box. So, for that reason, even though the name is like, ridiculously long, I think it breaks the rules and actually works. It puts you in mind of who you’re connecting with, who you’re helping, and it’s very visual so that makes it memorable despite the length. It works!
