Does the name Peloton suck? No, but we’re underwhelmed. It’s baffling to us why the brand doesn’t leverage its name more. This #tellthetruths video explains how the word Peloton actually has an awesome, relevant meaning. Why doesn’t the brand take advantage of this?
Does This Name Suck? PELOTON
Instead, because so few people know what a Peloton is, it exists as a meaningless, sound salad name. That makes it harder to remember, and represents a lost opportunity to use the name for storytelling to reinforce what the brand is all about.

Hey guys it’s Rebeca with Brand True. Does this name suck, Peloton? You know what, it doesn’t, but it’s not great. What really sucks about Peloton though is the fact that they don’t use the asset, the story that they have embedded in that name. So here’s what I mean. Peloton is an online community connecting this high-tech stationary bicycle. A good business before the pandemic; an incredible business once the pandemic struck and we couldn’t go to group exercise classes anymore. So the name Peloton actually means a group of bicyclists all in a clump together in a race, you stick together you draft off of each other. The community helps each other achieve more. It’s a beautiful name for what they do but they don’t leverage it in any way. So it ends up being this name that’s like Peloton, what is it? What is it? I can’t remember it, because I’m not connecting it to any meaning. It’s just, it’s okay. And I don’t understand.
