Hey guys, it’s Rebeca. Today we’re going to talk about a brand called Snag, specifically, Snag Tights. Does this name suck? So, I love this name! I don’t think it sucks. I’ll take you through the analysis in a minute, but there’s two different things that I often talk about that are really cool in naming that this name does. It is a “thick” communication, meaning that there’s a lot of different layers of meaning.
Snag is something that happens to tights. It’s not a good thing, but it’s something that’s relevant, but also I snagged some of these great tights. Like, it works on more than one level. Also a snag, if you’re a person who buys tights, you know what that looks like. There’s this little visual hook in your brain, too. So good, thick communication.
There’s also what I call an X-factor communication, meaning there’s a bit of negativity in it. Yes, snag is positive. Like grab, get ahold of. But snag is a bad thing that happens to tights. And yet, the brand name is hooked to it. Well, we have a lot of examples of wonderful brand names that have that X-Factor, you know Slack as a productivity tool. It works, but it almost feels like it shouldn’t, or Monster. There’s a couple of things named Monster that are appealing, not monstrous. That’s a whole video.
So this name that’s working on multiple, multiple, multiple levels. I love that already! Going through the framework, is it a Transparent communication? I give that a yes, because it puts you directly into the context of tights with that name. Is it Real, you know, is it authentic in terms of an emotion? That’s a check. Maybe not the biggest, fattest, juiciest check, but I think that’s a check. It’s real to call tights Snag. Is it Unique? Very! Is it Engaging? Very, very! I mean I think it’s just an adorable name. Let me know what you think. Bye!
