TRANSCRIPT:
– Hi guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue. And today we’re going to do another one of those battle of the brands. And this one, it’s not even a fair fight. We’re going to talk about Moderna versus Pfizer. I’ve already done at least one video. I suspect it’s more about just how terrible Pfizer’s name for their COVID vaccine, COMIRNATY was, is, versus Moderna’s awesome name, Spikevax. But that got me to thinking what about the names themselves? And I think it’s not even a fair fight.
Moderna is a word almost, it’s a coinage, but it sounds like modern and it opens up with an A, so it flows. You get all kinds of ideas, you know, associations and feelings from it that are very, very positively associated with pharmaceuticals, with doing research, with moving healthcare forward. It’s a pretty awesome name.
Pfizer, like so many heritage brand names, is just a person’s name, but it’s Ppp-ffff-izer. Like, it’s not easy, it is not memorable, and it’s just, it’s doing nothing for them. They have equity in it from being Pfizer all these years. I’m not going to poo-poo on that, but as a word, as a construction, it’s not elucidating anything, it’s not adding anything. So just in terms of the brand names, when I say battle of the brands, I really mean battle of the brand names. Moderna, it kicks Pfizer’s ass, in my opinion. Tell me what you think. Bye!
