TRANSCRIPT:
– Hey, let’s play Battle of the Brands! It’s Rebeca with BrandTrue and I want to compare two grocery brand names, Kroger and Piggly Wiggly. So Kroger has some things going for it, believe it or not, even though it’s not really any kind of like transparent communication as a grocer. That’s okay, most grocers aren’t.
The thing is that it’s short and sharp and those kinds of words, Kodak, Exxon, they carry power and they’re also more easily turned into verbs, which in fact, I live in Cincinnati, we’re a Kroger market. We do say “go Krogering,” which is ridiculous.
Okay, Piggly Wiggly. It’s a ridiculous name talking about ridiculous. It’s crazy. But it works. It’s got a triple rhyme, Piggly wiggly. It’s silly. It’s also, you don’t think the pig I’m going to eat it but subconsciously the pig does connect to food. So, it reinforces the category. It’s playful. It’s almost like a little mini story. It works. It works better. It wins.
