Which name speaks your language? BrandTrue’s Madison is team Babbel and I’m team Duolingo (and it’s closer than you might think).

TRANSCRIPT:
Hey guys, it’s Rebeca with BrandTrue and we have a good Battle of the Brands today. It’s between Duolingo and Babbel. They’re both language learning businesses and I’ll tell you right now that we have a quandary. So my colleague Madison thinks that Babbel wins and I absolutely can see the argument, but I think that Duolingo wins. So let me tell you why and then you’re going to have to help us split the tie, all right?
So Duolingo, why I give them the win is because I think that it’s more straightforward. I think that you just get the meaning and the fact that it’s in the realm of language one beat faster because “lingo,” “I don’t speak the lingo.” I just think that “language” is sitting right there. And also “duo” just makes you think two, or you know, maybe even more, like, we’re talking about learning languages to me instantly. Babbel is a little more metaphorical, right? It’s what babies do, it’s what, you know, “what’s he babbling about?” what people do when they’re talking nonsense. So the link to language is much stronger, which is why Madison felt it was right there. The link to language is much stronger in HER mind. So that’s why she votes for it, and I think it’s a great name, I think the link to language is there, but I think it just takes another second of thinking. Plus, although I like mixed messages names, I think that Babbel has a little bit of negativity and that’s why as close as it is, I’m on the other side of the fence with her. What do you think? Please help! Thanks. Bye!
